The Valley of Decision
When I was younger I used to think the BIG decisions (what career should I choose? where should I live? who should I marry? etc.), were the most important, and the ones that would set the course of my destiny. They’re the ones you seek counsel on, from those who know you best, (parents, close friends, counselors, and maybe even your pastor).
But at 65, I’ve come to believe it’s the LITTLE decisions, (the moment by moment choices; the ones we DON’T ask advice on, because after all, they’re not that important…they won’t change the course of my destiny), that have impacted me the greatest…for good or bad.
Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the BIG decisions weren’t important! Of course they are! But the LITTLE daily decisions I was making throughout the years of living within the BIG ones….changed the course of my Work, my Location, and my Family. It was in the moment by moment decisions to be Honest, Loyal, Considerate (or not)…that have truly set my course.
There’s a multitude of voices in my head that compete (daily) to sway me one way or another about Honesty, Loyalty, or Consideration…but it’s only in One Voice that I’ve found the best advice (of a Father, a Friend, a Counselor, and a Shepherd)
And He is ALWAYS near.
“Multitudes, Multitudes, in the Valley of Decision! For the Day of the Lord is near, in the Valley of Decision.” -Joel 3:14
