I Am With You Always
“Though sometimes I think I walk alone, I feel you’re always with me, encouraging me and believing in me.” - From a Letter to my Father, 1982.
Recently, I was looking through a filing cabinet, and came across the folder that held some letters my Dad and I had written, back and forth, when I was in my early 20’s, living in L.A. (Thank God, my father saved most of the letters or cards I sent them) It felt unusual to hold a piece of paper from so long ago with my handwriting on it, and as I read the words, I sensed the place and time (and even the smell) where I wrote it.
Over 40 years had passed…and yet…within a few hand written words, he and I were together again.
“…I feel you’re always with me…”
Now, being a father (and a grandfather), I have had many of these same experiences, of feeling I am right beside one of them, though, at times, I’m over a thousand miles away. I will be dialing a daughter’s phone number, and before I’m finished, a call from her comes through. Or I’m working in the yard, thinking about a son…and right then, he calls.
I think we ALL go through times when we feel alone. And we entertain the wrong voice of Loneliness that says, “No one cares about you…you’re all alone.”
But remember…
there’s another Voice…and His whisper forever says, “I Am With You Always.”
And He places others in our lives, as His Messengers.
