A Stone To Remember
“How do I want to be remembered? And what am I doing today to carve out that remembrance?”
Through time, stones have been used as “markers”, as a remembrance of an important event, that changed the path of a nation, or a people. Their presence is seen all around us in a monument, a boundary, or a tombstone.
Recently, I heard a preacher talking about The Will of God in our lives. He said, “We all imagine that God’s Will for our life would be something important, or prestigious. But what if, God’s purpose for your life was to be a good servant, a good parent, a good friend, to shape the path of ANOTHER person…who was to become that prestigious, well known, in the spotlight type person? Would you be Ok with that?”
To be honest, that’s been a hard question for me to answer….until recently.
Our children are now all grown, some married and with children to raise. And as I’ve been in conversations with them these last few years I find myself thinking, “Wow, they are so more mature in the way they view life, raising their children, or honoring God…than I EVER was at that age. They will navigate through their path of life so much better than I did.”
And I realized, there is no better way I would want to be remembered in their lives, other than as a good servant, a good parent, a good friend…that helped shape their path, for their better.
So my prayer is, “Allow me, Lord, to become that person in their life that softly guides them along their path, and doesn’t cause their foot to stumble. And after I’m gone, may I forever be imbedded in the path to their hearts…
…as a stone to remember.”
