The Second Letter
She looked across the room at Jon sitting by the fire. How loving he was to write letters and hide them for her to find years later, when he knew he would no longer be able to write. Jon turned his eyes to her, realizing the conversation on the couch had stopped and caught her smiling at him. Her eyes were so full of gratitude for the life he had given her, and continued to give her with these surprise Love Letters. But the smile she received back from Jon was of a stranger being polite, as one would smile at another passing on a sidewalk. Knowing he had no idea what he wrote within the envelope she was cherishing to open, touched her even more. -from Men Like Trees, “The Second Letter”
Selflessness ….So hard to remember when giving, so hard to forget when receiving.
“The true meaning of Life is to plant trees, under whose shade you will never expect to sit.”
