Life Walks With You
He’d always say, “You’re never alone as you walk through life, Life walks with you.” ~excerpt from Men, Like Trees
I once had an interview for a job I knew I was under qualified for. I had over 20 years experience in excavating, but this interview was with one of the larger downtown General Contractors, who specialized in high rise apartments. To add to my feeling out of my element, the front desk secretary informed me the person who would interview me was the president of the company.
Great!
“You can go in now”, she said as she motioned to the large wooden door beside her. As I opened the door, I felt like I just entered the private study in an old mansion.
“Good morning”, the older man said, as he stood from behind his large desk, reaching over to shake my hand. “Please, have a seat.”
As I sat, I noticed my resume sitting open in front of him. We talked for a few minutes about my background, but then he held up a Letter of Recommendation I had received 10 years earlier from the Vice-president of a large factory I had helped do the site work on, for adding their 15acre warehouse.
“THIS gentleman wrote you this Letter?” He said in amazement. “He’s one of the hardest persons to please I have ever worked with.”
“Yes sir, he IS very hard to work with.” I responded, as I watched him re-read the letter, place it neatly back in my resume, and close the folder.
“If that old man saw in you what I just read, then I don’t need to read anymore. When can you start?”
Yes….Life walks with you.
I remind my adult kids….”What we do TODAY, will impact us 10 years from now, either for good or bad. Make it for good!”
We’re never alone….
