Reflections

“As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.” Proverbs 27:19

In today’s “social media” driven world, the sin of Comparison seems to be at an all time high with the current generation. The reason I call Comparison a sin is when you look at someone or something, comparing it to yourself, your heart either puts yourself above or below it, either envying what you don’t have or boasting that you have more.

I often say to my kids, “Being Authentic is very attractive and becoming more and more rare. God made you authentically you. So be the best you. Be True to You…

…Be Authentic.”

Easier said than done, I know.

I am currently recovering from having a total knee replacement. The other day at physical therapy, there was another person there who also recently had a knee replacement. They were further along in their recovery, appearance, mobility, everything. I was impressed and felt encouraged….until I asked when they had their surgery!

“Two weeks ago.”

I am at week five, and they were twice as advanced. My therapist saw my face and my crumbling positive attitude and said, “Tom, you can’t compare! EVERY person is different. Your recovery is on track with YOU.”

But It was too late…nothing she could say changed my mind, “I was failing in my recovery!”

The following morning God reminded me of my own advice, “I made you Authentic. Don’t compare yourself to what you’re NOT…

…See your Reflection through MY eyes, and no one else’s.”

Thank you Lord, my Living Water.
