Prayers of an Orphan

“Commit your works to the Lord, and He will Establish your Thoughts.” Proverbs 16:3

Last night I opened a letter from a teenage orphan that we have helped since they were a child, and when I read the last paragraph, my mind remembered Proverbs 16:3.

Her last paragraph to Rachelle and I (and also our children)…was a Prayer.

It was about 16 years ago Rachelle came to me with a picture of a child and said, “Ive been thinking, I want to help this child, and others like her, who are orphans.” There was a look in her eyes, of a humble determination, that told me she’s not backing down! “Sure honey, get it set up”, I said. So we started with 1. Over time it had grown to 12.

Now, reading her Prayer again, I was thinking about our last 16 years, and how much we, our children, and grandchildren have been blessed. Someday, in Eternity, I know we’ll meet all these children, hug them and laugh with them. And it will be I, not them, who will get on my knees, and thank THEM for all they have done for us.

ALL because Rachelle had a “thought”, and from that one thought came countless….

….Prayers of an Orphan.
