“…As is a man…”

The other day, a tree fell across the street from our driveway entrance. Falling close to our mailbox, it has become my daily reminder that things are not always what they appear to be. This tree for years looked healthy, beautiful, and full of life. But now, I realize it had been dying a slow death from infestation.

There’s a quote from Abe Lincoln I’m reminded of, “A tree is best measured when it’s down”.

I’ve always thought it referred to, “A man’s true character is best revealed, when he’s brought low”. What’s truly in our hearts, comes to light when we are tested through tribulations and sufferings.

But this morning, another quote came to mind as I went out to get the mail and looked again at its hollow stare, quietly holding a mirror into my soul…

“…As is a man, so is his strength”. -Judges 8:21

And I believe this tree has fallen, where it has, to be a constant reminding Voice to me, “Your true Strength will Always be Measured by your Humility…or lack of”.
